Volunteering with children
We support families with children of various ages:
- Under 4: In some cases, we may be able to accept children aged under 4. Travelling with a baby or toddler? Let's discuss your options.
- Ages 4-14: Children over 4 years old can accompany their parent(s) on our family projects. This is often more affordable than you think - the price per child is charged at the lower extra-week fee.
- Ages 15+: If your child is aged 15 or older, they may volunteer with or without the accompaniment of a parent at the standard per-person price.
Our flexible approach means that we do everything we can to fulfil your unique needs as a family. Our Project Experts will suggest the best options and help you find the perfect trip for you and your family!
How our prices work
We offer special prices for families, giving you a better deal. All our projects have a minimum duration price, plus discounted prices for extra weeks spent at your destination. Any children under 15 will only pay the extra-week price, making the trip significantly cheaper.
To help you understand how this works, here are three examples of popular family volunteer trips.
1. Conservation in the Galapagos
Adventurous families jump at the chance to head to the Galapagos, a distant and fascinating collection of islands. On a Galapagos Conservation Project, parents and children get hands-on with caring for giant tortoises, monitoring animals, and reforesting indigenous vegetation. If you love wildlife, then this project is well worth the long flight.
A faraway destination, we recommend staying for at least three weeks to get the most out of your time there.
This trip costs €2,245 for one week plus €390 for extra weeks. This means that for a parent and child travelling for three weeks, the cost would be:
One adult: €2,245 + €390 + €390
One child: €390+ €390 + €390
Total: €4,195
2. Conservation in Peru
The Amazon Rainforest is renowned for its biodiversity, which is why Peru is such a popular destination for families. On a Peru Conservation Project, families assist with animal rescue, rehabilitation, and release. They also help with butterfly and turtle breeding programmes. It’s fulfilling and enjoyable work in one of the world’s wildest settings.
If you’re interested in joining this project, then we recommend staying for at least two weeks. The longer you stay, the greater the impact you can have.
This trip costs €1,920 for one week plus €365 for extra weeks. This means that for a parent and child travelling for three weeks, the total cost would be:
One adult: €1,920 + €365 + €365
One child: €365 + €365 + €365
Total: €3,745
3. Childcare in Nepal
Childcare makes fantastic volunteer work for families because it’s something that both adults and children can get a lot out of. Plus, there’s nothing like the satisfaction of bringing joy and laughter to the lives of young children. In Nepal, families stay in either Chitwan or Kathmandu, surrounded by the awe-inspiring Himalayan Mountains.
The Childcare Project in Nepal will take you to some of the world’s most stunning settings, where you’ll be immersed in this wonderful and spiritual culture. Try to stay for three weeks or more to ensure your family will benefit from this trip and leave a meaningful impact on local children.
This trip costs €1,585 for two weeks plus €240 for extra weeks. This means that for a parent and child travelling for three weeks, the total cost would be:
One adult: €1,585 + €240
One child: €240 + €240 + €240
Total: €2,545
